Green qualifies 22nd for Aaron’s 312 in Atlanta

Atlanta - Mark Green qualified for his fourth consecutive race behind the wheel of the LoveFiFi.com Chevrolet Friday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. He will start on the outside of row 11, right behind Tony Stewart and in directly in front of Mark Martin.

Green qualified 22nd, with an average speed of 185.220 mph on the 1.54 mile track. His qualifying time of 29.932 seconds was 0.578 seconds slower than pole sitter Mike Bliss who turned in a time of 29.354 seconds at 188.867 mph.

“ The car was really good today,” said Green. “It stuck in the corners and I was able to go full throttle almost all the way around the track.”

He would have liked to have been higher up in the starting order, but crew chief Mike Byrd said he was pleased with the team’s position.

“ Unless you’re sitting on the pole you are always going to want to have done better, but we’re happy with starting 22nd,” said Byrd. “There are a lot of really good cars in this field, and quite a few of them are starting behind us.”

The effort continues the new team’s impressive string of qualifying efforts which began earlier this month in Kansas. Now they will attempt to improve on their season high finish of 24th which came two weeks ago at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

“ We’ve got a good car and we’re going to let her rip,” said Green. “We’re out here to run with up front and we plan on moving up quite a few places Saturday.”
