Green is confident at “favorite”
track
Eddyville, Ky. – Mark Green will attempt to continue
his string of impressive finishes in the #23 Vassarette
Chevrolet on Friday in Richmond, Va.
Green, who came on board with Keith Coleman Racing (KCR)
on a interim basis before the Phoenix, Ariz. race, has finished
22nd, 11th and 22nd respectively in the last three weeks.
In that time, the team has gained several positions in the
all important owner’s points standings. More importantly,
the team has gained nearly 200 points on the 30th place
team, which is the final place team to be guaranteed a starting
sport.
“It’s what we are working toward,” said
Green, referring to the team’s march on a top-30 standing.
“The one thing we’ve needed to work on over
the last three weeks is making the car drive better. We’ve
had to go with qualifying setups and that hurts the handling
during the race. If you know you’re in you can go
with a race setup but we can’t take that chance right
now.”
Green will be one of 17 drivers attempting to qualify on
time for the 12 non-guaranteed positions. While he is respectful
of the challenge, he’s also looking forward to racing
under the lights at Richmond.
“It’s my favorite track,” said Green.
“Since it is the only three-quarter mile track it’s
unique. You can rub and push a little without getting into
trouble and you can run high or low. I just love racing
here and I can’t wait until Friday.”
The first practice will be on Friday morning at 9:30 followed
by qualifying at 3:30 p.m. The Funai 250 will take place
later that evening at 8:05. Qualifying will be carried on
Speed and the race will air on FX. All times are eastern.
