Green looks to continue success at Daytona
Eddyville, Ky. – Mark Green will attempt to qualify
in his tenth consecutive event behind the wheel of the #23
Vassarette Chevrolet this weekend. Green has qualified in
14 of his 16 career attempts while driving for Keith Coleman
Racing.
In four events at Daytona International Speedway, Green
has made a habit of moving up through the pack. With an
average finish of nearly 20 positions better than his qualifying
effort, he has shown the patience necessary to compete on
NASCAR’s biggest stage.
“I don’t always start where I want, but it
seems like I’ve had pretty good luck there,”
said Green. “The restrictor plate races are fun because
you can really make some noise, if you can stay out of trouble.”
Green will be driving the same car he piloted to a 11th
place finish in the Aaron’s 312 at Talladega SuperSpeedway
earlier this year. It was the back-up car and the team was
forced to pull it off the hauler an hour before qualifying
began when a problem was found with the primary car’s
roof flaps.
The car was made ready to qualify in short order and Green
put it in the field without the benefit of a practice lap.
He started 39th and moved as high as sixth before a couple
of late cautions reshuffled the pack.
"It was a great car for us at Talladega,” Green
said. “To be able to pull the car off the truck, qualify
and then race as well as we did showed us how good of a
car it was. Thankfully I was able to bring in out in one
piece so we can run it again this week.”
