Green eager to hit the road at Watkins
Glen
Eddyville, Ky. – The Nascar Busch Series returns
to Watkins Glen International Speedway for the first time
in four years this weekend. It will be a new experience
for most drivers as several either have never competed on
the track or haven’t raced there since the Busch Series
left in 2001.
One of those drivers will be Mark Green who returns to
a road course for the first time in five years as he did
not attempt the race in Mexico City earlier this season.
In four trips to Watkins Glen International, Green’s
highest finish was 15th. Most recently he finished 18th
in 2000.
“I’ve run there enough that I’m very
comfortable with the track, even with the layoff,”
Green said. “Road courses can be a lot of fun because
they are different and really challenge you as a driver.
I’ve had some success at ‘The Glen’ and
I’m really looking forward to getting back on the
track this weekend and turning right for a change.”
Green will be attempting to qualify for his fifth consecutive
event behind the wheel of the #23 BMAR Support Our Troops
Chevrolet. There are 54 cars entered in the Zippo 200, which
makes Green one of 23 drivers competing for the 12 open
starting positions. With a large entry list, Green knows
that he is going to have to earn his way into the race.
“This is another one of those really tight fields,”
he said. “There are a lot of really good cars and
several road course specialists on the entry list so we
are really going to have to qualify well.”
The Zippo 200 will air at 2 p.m. eastern time on Saturday.
It will be preceded by qualifying at 9 a.m. on Speed.
