Mark Green GEICO
Racing Pre-Race Notes
Mark Green on Daytona:
“We want to win at Daytona,” explained Mark
Green. “And I think we can. But the
bigger picture is to get a solid top-15 finish just to
get our point situation started in the right direction. We’ll
be disappointed with anything other than a top-10, but
if we’ve got a 15th place car we need to get that
15th. We don’t want to run 15th all day and
end up 30th. We don’t want to give up anything
on the racetrack since the point situation is so critical
nowadays. We want to get as many points as we possibly
can and accumulate those through the first five races. Daytona,
of course, is the first step to that. A top-10 would
be good and a win would be perfect. Anything less
than that would be disappointing.”
Mark Green on his New Team:
“At Biagi Bros. Racing, we have the equipment that
we need to be competitive and competent employees that
know what they’re doing and have the desire to win. They’re
not just here for a paycheck. They want to do well
and they want to succeed. We have all the little
pieces that we need to run well. We just have to
put them together and hopefully have the racing luck to
go along with it.”
Mark Green on Testing at Daytona:
“Testing went good,” explained Green after
returning from NASCAR’s mandatory test session at
Daytona International Speedway on January 21st through
23rd. “Drafting went good too,” he explained. “That’s
the most important thing at Daytona. Our single car
runs were not as good as they needed to be, but we don’t
have to rely on single car runs since we have a guaranteed
starting spot for the race.” Green continued, “Our
Dodge drives good and it drafts good, too. We’ve
got good motors from Ilmor Engineering so I’m excited
and anxious for the season to start. More so than
I have ever been before.”
Jon Wolfe on Their Daytona Dodge:
“We’re taking chassis No. 12 to Daytona,” explained
Crew Chief, Jon Wolfe. “It only has one race
on it. Mark’s brother Jeff drove this car for
Biagi Bros. last July where he finished 11th. S&S
Performance Fabrication hung the body on it, and with great
engines from Ilmor Engineering, we’re confident that
we’ll have a great car at Daytona.”
Mark Green on His Off-Season Activities:
Through The Green Brothers Celebrity Golf Tournament,
brothers Mark and Jeff Green donated over $55,000 to several
charities in December. “We handed out quite
a bit of money to all the organizations that we support,” explained
Mark. “We support The Victory Junction Gang
Camp because we knew Adam (Petty). Jeff and I were
both good friends with him. It’s nice to be
able to help Patty and Kyle Petty and help the kids as
well. That’s one of our main concerns; we want
to help the kids. We also support MRO, muscular dystrophy,
and several organizations back home in Owensboro, Ky.”
