Mark Green GEICO Racing Pre-Race Notes

Mark Green on California Speedway:

“The race track is basically the same as Las Vegas, but it’s just a half-mile bigger,” explained Mark Green.  “The banking is pretty close.  If you’ve got a car that will turn good and is aerodynamically good at Las Vegas, then it should be good at California, too.  Considering that our test in Las Vegas went great, we should have a great car at California!”

Mark Green’s Past at California Speedway:

“The first time I went out to California, I was driving Brewco’s (Busch Series) car and we qualified in the top-ten,” explained the Owensboro, Ky. native whose brother David now occupies that ride.  “We got caught up in a wreck,” he explained.  “It was just one of those racing deals.”

Returning Home:  Jamie Maynard

When the NASCAR Busch Series returns to California, Jamie Maynard will be returning home too.  “I’m looking forward to the race at California Speedway,” explains the 25-year-old native of McKinleyille, Calif.  “My family is coming down for the race, so it should make for a fun weekend!”  Maynard graduated from McKinleyville High School in 1998 before attending Empire College in Santa Rosa, Calif. where she obtained her Associate’s Degree in Accounting in 2000.  She currently handles public relations and team operations for Biagi Bros. Racing.

Last Weekend’s Post-Race Rundown:

In a wild end to the Hershey’s Kissables 300, veteran driver Mark Green captured a tenth place finish at Daytona Int’l Speedway after a huge crash on the last lap.  “I don’t know what happened,” explained Green after limping his GEICO Dodge across the finish line.  “Someone pushed and shoved the 77 and turned him around and caused a big wreck.  It sure is exciting for the fans but it’s a shame to tear your race car up 100 yards from the finish line.”  Green was the most improved driver in Saturday’s race, showcasing his skills on the 2.5-mile tri-oval by picking up 31 spots in the event’s 120 laps.  “I just can’t thank Fred Biagi enough for giving me the opportunity to drive the GEICO Dodge.  GEICO has been a great sponsor and I’m happy that we were able to give them a top-ten in our first race of the year,” said Green.  “I hate that we tore up a race car, but overall it was a great day.  To finish tenth in our first race together just proves that we have what it takes to be competitive.”
