Mark Green GEICO Racing Texas Pre-Race Notes
Mark Green on the ‘One That Got Away’ at Texas Motor Speedway:
“The very first Busch Series race at Texas Motor
Speedway, I should have won. We lead 90 laps towards
the end of the race but a caution came out after I had
just pitted which killed our chances.”
Mark Green’s on Texas Motor Speedway:
“I like Texas Motor Speedway but it’s a big
track where aerodynamics are important. We’ve
kind of struggled at similar tracks this year, but from
the stuff that we have learned since Atlanta; our cars
are going to be better. Everyone seems to be trying
new things with the geometry on their front ends and the
way their spring combinations are so we’re going
to try something different and veer over that way. I’m
looking forward to running better and having a good run
in Texas.”
Mark Green on Goodyear’s New Tire Compound:
“The new tire that Goodyear has this year is quite
a bit different than what I’ve raced in the past. We’ve
been fortunate to get some information from Petty Enterprises
as far as what the tire wants for air pressure and spring
rates. The things that they find they’re basically
passing along to us to help us out. We’re very
thankful for that.”
Mark Green on Help from Petty Enterprises:
“I’ve known quite a few people at Petty Enterprises
from when Adam (Petty) raced in the Busch Series. When
Kyle (Petty) needed a spotter several years ago, they called
me so I’ve been doing that since then. Kyle’s
very particular with what he wants, not only in a spotter,
but with everything and I guess, for whatever reason, I
fit into that mold. In return, they kind of help
me with the stuff that I need help with since I do that
for them. It helps them too because they don’t
have a Busch team or a lot of the outside sources as far
as the Busch races go to draw from so they can get information
from us, whether it be good or bad. They see that
benefit of sharing information a little bit. You
can’t buy the help that they give us. So we’re
fortunate to have that. We haven’t been utilizing
it as much as we should have been but we’re going
too from this point forward.”
Green to Meet the Gecko on Friday:
Mark Green will drop in on GEICO’s regional office
in Dallas, Texas on Friday for a meet-and-greet and autograph
session with GEICO’s employees. “It’s
always nice to visit race fans, but these are the people
that allow me to race. They’re the people that
bring GEICO the money and in turn, GEICO is able to sponsor
us. Without them, none of this would be possible. It’s
always nice to be able to thank them for their work.”
Mark Green on Fishing and ‘The Big Catch’:
On Friday, Mark Green and the GEICO Racing team will enjoy
a day off and a few of the GEICO crew are hoping to get ‘The
Big Catch’ during a guided fishing trip on Lake Fork,
one of the hottest bass fishing lakes in Texas. Mark
Green, however, would like to return home with a ‘Big
Catch’ of his own, the coveted trophy of the O’Reilly “300”.
