The NASCAR Foundation Is On Track
For Charity
Charity Walk Program to Launch at Dover International
Speedway
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 5, 2006) – The
NASCAR Foundation kicks off its charity walks on Saturday,
June 3, following the NASCAR Busch Series race (FX, 3 p.m.
EST) at Dover International Speedway. NASCAR fans
will get an exclusive look at the “Monster Mile” while
raising money for worthy causes.
Not only are fans getting to walk on the famous Monster
Mile, but they are going to have the unique opportunity
to walk with well-known members of the NASCAR community. Walkers
can stroll on the track with Jeff Hammond, our 2006 walk
chairman, a champion crew chief and FOX Sports NASCAR analyst.
“I am honored to be this year’s Walk Chairman,” said Jeff
Hammond. “These walks are a fun way to meet new people, see the
track up close, rub elbows with some of the NASCAR celebrities and help The
NASCAR Foundation’s commitment to serving communities, and the initiatives
of their supported charities.”
In addition to walking with Jeff Hammond, fans will have
the opportunity to walk and talk with several other drivers
and charity representatives. Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne,
Jeremy and Shana Mayfield, Jeff and Mark Green and ladies
from the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports will be
walking the track with fans uniting for charity. And,
as a special treat, the walkers who raise $500 or more
will get a VIP meet-and-greet session with Kasey Kahne.
“Our fans are so supportive and so giving of everything that we do,” said
Kahne, driver of the No. 9 Dodge. “These walks are a great way
for me to really get to talk with the fans, thank them for their support and
at the same time, raise money for some great charities and causes.”
The Dover event is the first of many charity walks this
race season in which fans can participate and get a driver’s
perspective of the tracks. These walks are a popular
event for fans and members of the community and provide
entertainment while helping out some of The NASCAR Foundation’s
supported charities. Last year in Dover, more than
1,000 people participated in the walk.
“We welcome back The NASCAR Foundation’s On Track for Charity walk
to our track,” said Mark Rossi, vice president of sales and marketing
of Dover Motorsports, Inc. “The spirit of this walk not only gives
fans the unique experience to be able to touch the track, but it also shows
their commitment to helping improve the lives of those in need.
Fans can register online to participate in the Fun Walk
by visiting www.nascar.com/foundation. Registration
fees are $25 for each individual. Children under the age
of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult but can participate
for free. Participants can register to walk with
one of the special guest’s groups or in the general
walking group. New this year, fans can choose to create
their own webpage and encourage family and friends to support
them in their fundraising efforts.
Proceeds from this Fun Walk will benefit all of The NASCAR
Foundation’s supported charities that participate
in the event.
