Mark Green hails from Owensboro, Ky., where some of the
greatest racers have begun their careers. The racing gene
is a part of the region’s heritage. The names Waltrip,
Mayfield and Green all mean one thing to this small western
Kentucky town - racing success.
The Green family is responsible for much of the success
to emerge from Owensboro. Mark’s father, David Sr,
was a successful drag racer while his brothers David and
Jeff captured the NASCAR Busch Series Championships in
1994 and 2000 respectively. Jeff currently drives the No.
66 entry in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series while David works
in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series as a spotter for Team Red
Bull and driver coach for Robert Yates Racing.
Still very active in motorsports, Mark is currently with
Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) and serves as the test driver
for the team’s three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series entries
and is the spotter for Michael Waltrip. He is also scheduled
to practice and qualify MWR’s No. 99 Aaron's Dream
Machine in several NASCAR Busch Series races in 2007.
Mark began his racing career at the age of 13 in karts.
He scored six consecutive championships before moving up
to late models in 1984. After winning four track championships
in the late model division, he graduated to the NASCAR
Busch Series in 1995. Since then he has competed in more
than 220 NASCAR Busch Series races. In addition to driving,
Mark has also worked as a test driver, driver coach and
spotter for several NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teams.
Mark and his wife Cathy reside in Concord, N.C. They have
two children, Rachel and Tyler. The family racing tradition
is being carried on by Tyler, who has scored several Legends
and Bandelero championships.
In 2002, Mark and his brother Jeff founded The Green Foundation,
a comprehensive, not-for-profit charitable corporation
established to assist individuals with severe injuries
as well as those organizations that nurture and inspire
at-risk youths to pursue their dreams through the development
of leadership skills, intellectual abilities, positive
attitudes and family values. Since its inception, The Green
Foundation has raised thousands of dollars and helped many.
